04-22-2013 - Customs and Border Protection announces the opening of three new Centers of Excellence and Expertise (CEEs).

 

Thursday April, 18th Customs and Border Protection (CBP) posted on their website that three new CEEs are now open,  Base metals in Chicago, IL, Industrial and Manufacturing Materials in Buffalo, NY and Machinery in Laredo, TX.  Making seven total centers now open.  The release also states that CBP plans to open three more in fiscal year 2013, Agriculture & Prepared Products, Apparel, Footwear & Textiles, and Consumer Products & Mass Merchandising.

The CEE’s are virtual organizations which utilize technology to provide one-stop processing for participating importers, bringing CBP in line with modern business practices, centralizing expertise for consistency and harmonization, growing industry-based knowledge within CBP and improving enforcement and risk assessment, a part of CBP’s expanded focus on “Trade in the 21st Century.”
